Georgetown, Guyana - Although the sun created steaming heat Sunday afternoon at the GCC ground Bourda, porous covers and sloppy work by the ground-staff, the final day of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Noble House Seafoods second division two-day cricket semi-final between GCC and Everest was called off without a ball being bowled.
Everest have now advanced to meet DCC in the final since without a result meant Everest finished the competition for second division teams in the City, with more wins than GCC.
GCC, led by an unbeaten century from Deonarine Seegobin, had ended the opening day 326-6 and in a strong position to declare overnight and try to dismiss Everest below their total but heavy morning showers washed out play before Lunch.
With the sun out in all of its glory, the ground staff clumsily removed the covers from the square without first removing the surface water from the covers. This resulted in the entire match pitch drenched.
The game was subsequently called off due to the unplayable condition of the pitch although the ground and areas on the square had dried out by mid afternoon.
President of the GCA, former West Indies Test spinner Roger Harper told Kaieteur Sport that the Association is hoping to stage the final this weekend but added that this should be confirmed during this week.
