Asif Ally XI capture Vicky Singh Memorial softball title

Georgetown, Guyana - Asif Ally XI defeated Rajesh Singh XI by 54 runs to capture the Vicky Singh Memorial softball title Sunday at the Everest Cricket Club.

Batting first in front of a large crowd, Asif Ally XI posted a respectable 224-6 off their allotted 20 overs before bowling out Rajesh Singh XI for 170 in 19.5 overs.

Asif Ally XI lost an early wicket, but Danny Gangadeen and Troy Gobin added 105 for the second wicket to set the tone for a sizeable total. Gangadin smashed five fours and three sixes in a top score of 62, while Gobin hit three fours and two maximums in scoring 53. Asif Ally smashed a robust 49 towards the end of the innings. Chunilall Babulall was the pick of the bowlers with 2-35.

In Rajesh Singh XI reply, Troy Gobin cracked a fine 49 with three fours and one six, while Fidel Singh scored 27 and Richard Latiff 26 at the top of the order, but the trio received little support from the rest of the batting as Tony Singh claimed 3-22, Gangadin 3-26 and Ally 2-27.

Gangadin received the man of the match and best bowler awards, while Eddie Barlow took home the prize for being the competition’s best bowler.

Meanwhile, Ally XI overcame Ryan Singh XI and Rajesh Singh XI beat Dharam Persaud XI in the semi finals.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Eshwar Singh, a member of the Everest Cricket Club, thanked the teams for participating and Everest CC for hosting the event.

The tournament was sponsored by overseas based Guyanese Asif Ally and was played in memory of the late Vicky Singh a former softball player who represented local softball team JP’s; he passed away in 2013.
