Georgetown, Guyana - New Market, Crabwood Creek and host Massiah were among the winning teams when the Ministry of Education (MoE) / National Sports Commission (NSC) and Al Sports & Tour Promotions held a One-day Windball Cricket Competition for Primary Schools yesterday, at the Massiah Primary School ground, No.71 Village, Corentyne.
Playing in the Boys Division, New Market defeated No. 48 by eight wickets.
Taking first strike after losing the toss, No. 48 compiled 43-4 off the allotted 5 overs with Simon Kendall hitting a top-score of 16.
Chasing 44 for victory, New Market reached the required target for the loss of 2 wickets with Steve Holder slamming 22.
Crabwood Creek then beat Leeds by eight wickets.
Batting first, Leeds closed on 39 without loss with Vishaul Singh contributing 19.
In their turn at the crease, Crabwood Creek made 40-2. Trevon Sukhu topscored with 10.
Home side Massiah then eased to a comfortable nine wickets win over Skeldon.
Skeldon made 44-4 batting first with Alex Persaud 16, Zakeel Flatts 13 and Riaz Khan 11, being the principal scorers.
Massiah replied with 45-1 with Vettorie Latchman and Seiraj Chatterpaul hitting 17 apiece.
In the Girls Division, Massiah and New Market reigned supreme.
Massiah beat Crabwood Creek by four runs in the opening fixture.
They made 37-1 batting first with Ravena Laljit hitting a quickfire 16 and Rawina Bhagwandin adding 10.
Crabwood Creek were then restricted to 33-3 when the overs expired. Laljit returned to snare two wickets for 4 runs.
No. 48 went down to New Market by eight wickets.
No. 48 made 48-2 with Hevin Singh stroking 11.
New Market replied with 49-2. Alice Fraser hit a top-score of 15.
In the final game of the day, Massiah beat Skeldon by ten wickets.
Skeldon made 21-3 and Massiah reached 25-0.
The event was organized by Sports Officer attached to the NSC Allister Munroe, while Seon Erskine acted on behalf of Director of Sport Christopher Jones.
Both gave brief remarks and promised future competitions in Berbice.
All the participating schools received trophies.
