Georgetown, Guyana - Outstanding batting by two Berbice Under-19 batsmen, both playing for the Albion Community Centre, highlighted the latest matches of the 2014 Elizabeth Styles Under-19, 50-over cricket competition in Berbice.
When Albion took first strike against Kendall’s Union they lost an early wicket with only two runs on the board, but Sharaz Ramcharran joined Guyana Under-15 batsman Adrian Sukhwa, and they put on 110 for the second wicket before Sukhwa fell for 38.
David Latchaya came in and he and Ramcharran proceeded to put on 290 in an unbroken third- wicket stand in 31 overs to help Albion post 402-2 from the allotted 50 overs.
Latchaya ended on 159 not out (15x4s) and Ramcharran 147 not out (13x4s). After that, off-spinner Balchand Baldeo proceeded to take 6-9 from five overs and left-arm spinner Asif Ally 3-15 from four overs to bowl Kendall’s Union out for 46 to give Albion a massive 356-run victory.
Meanwhile, Raymond Braithwaite slammed 91 (12x4s, 3x6s) to steer D’Edward to 199 in 42 overs against Bush Lot New Generation, whose off-spinner Hakeem Miller took 6-35. Braithwaite, bowling medium pace, then took three early wickets to see Bush Lot shakily placed at 119-6 before Shawn Smith with 56 not out (3x4s, 2x6s) and Winston Joseph (48*), featured in an 85-run unbroken seventh -wicket stand to guide their team to victory.
Elsewhere, Kareem Mentore’s 60 helped Acheivers ‘A’ attain victory over their ‘B’ team counterparts at the Bath ground.
