Toronto, Canada - After featuring in the last two consecutive Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) finals, East Coast Cricket Club (ECCC) is eager to be the champion this year, according to one of their veteran players, Mark Moosaie.
On both occasions they were beaten by Cricketer’s Cove but Moosaie stated that they will be seeking a winning formula at this final juncture. He did not blame anyone for the losing streak as he was cognizant of Cricketer’s Cove’s great efforts.
He and his team now planning to emulate them and have started their vigorous preparations ahead of the 20-over competition. Suffering the consequences at this stage is relatively frustrating to several players; however, Moosaie, an opener, is very positive of glory in 2014.
“I think we have got to be more prepared; certainly we had enjoyed our games thoroughly but at the grand final our batting let us down both years so we will be working very hard to make it as the champion,” Moosaie related.
The former skipper also mentioned about the importance of team’s unity which always there and the perseverance to succeed in the grand finale, especially against a quality side like Cricketer’s cove, who has been the most dominant team over the past four years.
East Coast Cricket Club is definitely considered one of the favourite teams in the regular 20-over competition and they have justified it with their impressive performances at the East End Division emerging as the victor for two years now.
“I can honestly say that we have been good at the East End Division so far and it was very satisfactory for 2012 and 2013 after dominating both years and then advanced to the final; we played excellent cricket and it was because of the competitiveness; we just enjoyed our cricket,” Moosaie declared.
Apart from the team, Moosaie and his elder brother Ray Moosaie have appreciated their game too after starting the innings for ECCC since the club was formed in 2007. According to the current Treasurer, they have batted at the top for long and set unbroken partnerships.
Mark, who represented Canada national team at the under-19 level in 1999, was very delighted with his personal performances and by extension the alliance with his sibling.
In 2011, they shared an unbeaten 179-run opening stand in the 20-over version against Essequibo Cricket Club and that has been a great memory for them. Factually, they are still relishing that record which is still to be broken. Ray made 96 and Mark contributed 79.
“Yes, I like to bat with my brother and as I said we just want to play the game in a friendly manner and to keep up a family-oriented way by playing together; we don’t try to be hostile and be aggressive and make the game looks like we playing for our lives; we enjoy our game,” the 34-year-old Mark proclaimed.
Rakesh Dyal who took over the captaincy two years ago came in for praise by Mark. He spoke about Dyan’s composure and astuteness as a leader and that undoubtedly given him the confidence ECCC will be crowned champion this season.
Former Guyana under-19 batsman Krishna Deosaran who represents the club on an annual basis made an immediate impression and his presence in the team continues to be profound, is the firm opinion of Mark.
Before they began playing competitive softball, Mark also revealed of his playing days at the Toronto and District Cricket Association (T&DCA) competitions turning out for the popular Vikings Cricket Club.
