Georgetown, Guyana - Several leading cricketers from Berbice will converge on the Albion Community Centre ground today to compete in the ninth annual Universal Solutions and Universal DVD Club T20 Festival.
The four teams- Universal Warriors, Berbice Titans, Universal President’s XI and Universal Solutions Tigers- will do battle when the action gets underway with the first semi-final at 10:00 hours.
The first game will see Universal Solutions Tigers opposing the President’s XI, followed by Berbice Titans against Universal Warriors in the second game from 13:00 hours.
The winners will clash in the final, which is set for next Saturday at the Albion Community Centre ground under lights, following a female exhibition encounter between Berbice and Demerara and the third place encounter between the losing sides from today’s semi-finals.
National middle-order batsman Royston Crandon, Devindra Thakurdeen, Lloydel Lewis and Anthony D’Andrade have been tasked with the responsibility of leading the Universal Warriors, Berbice Titans, Universal President’s XI and Universal Solutions Tigers respectively.
Julian Moore, Kwesi Maltay, Michael Franco and Winston Smith are the coaches of the four teams.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of Universal DVD Club and Universal Solutions, Vicram Seubarran, urged the players to play the game in the true spirit and exercise a high degree of discipline.
“As you are aware, the Universal DVD Club and Universal Solutions will be celebrating its ninth anniversary this year with the T20 Festival being a part of our proceedings. Last year we did the same programme, but it was organised by the Berbice Cricket Board and this year, we wrote the BCB and with the help of head coach Julian Moore and the scorebooks available, we called up the players and placed them in four teams, evenly matched,” Seubarran said.
